HELMUT NEWTON AND BETTINA RHEIMS

I was so excited to lift my Monday with a visit to the Art Gallery of New South Wales to check out the new exhibition featuring 50 works in a joint display of photographers Helmut Newton and Bettina Rheims, both of different generations but equally expressing femininity, intimacy, power, and identity through their arresting images.

We Used To Talk ABout Love, a photographic curation, is also showing at the same time and is a must see, with the video work of Grant Stevens, titled Crushing 2009, my new favourite thing. Valentine’s present anyone?

Roslyn Oxley Exhibits David Noonan

Be sure to visit Roslyn Oxley’s gallery before 2nd March to see two stunning artists on show that I had the pleasure to attend the opening of last week.

David Noonan’s last scale screen prints on jute and linen with a repeat collage layer are out of this world, I am completely in love with his work.

James Angus uses cast iron and enamel paint to create solid sculptural works that twist and turn and knot, with my favourite being White Pipe Compression.

COFFEE & ART

The arrival late last week of my Afra and Tobia Scarpa Soriana Sofa from Cassina, all the way from Paris, was a very happy day, and perfectly coincided with the 20th Century auction at Lawsons where I was thrilled to pick up a perfectly suited glass coffee table by Pietro Chiesa for Fontana Art. Happy weekend!

NOAH TAYLOR AT TIM OLSEN

Noah Taylor, propelled to stardom in the fascinating teenage film, The Year My Voice Broke, still remains a sweet mystery despite his numerous acting accomplishments.

But while acting has been his working life, his silent passions have been painting and drawing.

Opening last night at Tim Olsen’s gallery in Woollahra, Taylor bared his soul in his first solo exhibition of 35 paintings in black ink line drawings mostly on paper.

Painting from a studio around the corner from his home in Brighton, England, Taylor describes his works as subconscious landscapes, naive like and often include a solitary figure or a sense of loneliness, with the artist becoming a voyeur of emotions and humanity.

Edwina White is also currently showing at Tim Olsen and it was a lovely discovery to see her work last night at the same time.

Bronte Air

Surrounded by serenity on a recent house shoot with Felix Forest, in the beach-side Bronte house of interior Designer Madeleine Blanchfield. Using a white backdrop with panel detailing, the house has a contemporary, fresh and relaxed feel, using light, texture and wood finishes with the finest attention to detail. A wall sculpture by Dion Horstmans in the master bedroom was my favourite piece of the day! Looking forward to sharing the final shots with you and hope this behind the scenes satisfies the appetite for now…

Art Gallery NSW

A meditative stroll around the Art Gallery of NSW pre New Year’s eve was a perfect calm before the fun.  Picked up some beautiful cake plates by a good friend of my brother,  Melody Rose on exit also. Happy 2013.

PROUVE IN PARIS

Patrick Seguin, a prominent figure of the 20th century design world, has a beautiful space which I was thrilled to visit in Paris earlier this year. Promoting internationally acclaimed works by French creators, the space was brimming with Jean Prouve collectibles all in the one room. Heaven.

Anish Kapoor at the MCA

Dizzying and captivating, the Museum of Contemporary Art showcases a sublime display of the work of Anish Kapoor, opening today much to my excitement. Each fascinating work reveals the artists preoccupation in the transformative power of the materials in which he works. Challenging the viewers ideas of art and engagement, materials come to life, including concrete, wax, fibreglass and pure colour pigment, dominating our vision and mind.
